Artistic Freedom Today - Interviews
Wolfgang Ullrich
WolfgangUllrich (* 1967 in Munich) is a German art historian and cultural scientist. In his writings he deals with the history and critique of the concept of art, with questions of the sociology of the image, and with consumer theory. Above all, he is concerned with the arming of the concept of art, which he says has caused its role in modernity to be overestimated. He diagnoses the resulting excessive demands on artists as well as art recipients and pleads for a more sober approach to works of art. In his publications, Ullrich treats art methodically on a par with other visual phenomena, such as images from advertising, photojournalism, or propaganda.
